Homework Policy
Students will have homework each night. Students will be assigned math homework, and a weekly reading log. Reading logs are due Friday morning. Math homework will consist of either math facts (fluency practice), homework skill practice, or a problem-of-the-day which we will use for the following day's warm-up.
RULER/HOWLS
Our 2nd Grade Charter is one part of the RULER curriculum. The purpose of the Charter is to work together so we can understand and effectively deal with the spectrum of emotions and situations we experience. The HOWLS learner mindset helps to support and build District 20 Core Principles of behavior. HOWLS stands for:
Honor
Owernship
Work Hard
Lead
Safety
Birthday Parties
If you would like to send in a birthday trinket/treat for your student please email me at least 24 hours in advance. This will enable us to have enough time to celebrate. Please consider an alternative party trinket such as, pencils, bookmark, erasers, stickers, etc. or a healthy treat. We ask that all food/treats are nut free and are from a nut free factory. .
Classroom Snacks
We will have snack around 10:00 am each day. Students are welcome to bring a nut free snack into the classroom. We ask that students do not bring candy or sweets but instead eat a healthy option. Students are not permitted to share food, due to allergy and health concerns. Thank you for understanding.
Water Bottles
Water bottles are welcome in the classroom and students can have them at their desk. We also have a drinking fountain in the room.
Personal Items
Students should not bring personal items to school. This may include but is not limited to the following: toys, fidget spinner, skateboards, scooters, games, trading cards (Pokemon, sports cards), etc. This is to ensure items are not lost or damaged. We understand that many students walk home and need to bring a cell phone to school for safely. If this is the case, the student will need to turn their cell phone off and put it in the classroom phone bin until the end of the day.
Attendance
Please help your student get to school on time. The first bell to enter the classroom is at 8:05, and the tardy bell rings at 8:15. Students need to be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings, this helps us start our day off smoothly so we can jump right into Morning Meeting.
Please let me know if you have any questions! I do not check planner for notes so email is the best way to contact me to ensure a quick response. Thank you!
